For my ninth concentration piece, I chose to do Egyptian mythology. This is Set, the god of chaos, deserts, and storms. He is holding two items of Egyptian mythology, the Was-Sceptre(left) and the Ankh(the right), the sceptre is a symbol of power and the Ankh of life. He is depicted with the head of a donkey, aardvark, or giraffe, I chose to do Aardvark. This piece was done very quickly in colored pencil. I enjoy using colored pencil and y favorite part of this was coloring the god's skin, skin is always a challenge for me but I love how it came out. The most difficult part was the background, I planned on making it a sort of vague, sandy background, like a blowing desert. I'm very satisfied with this piece.
First, I lightly sketched out the design on colored pencil paper with light brown pencil, and began on the sceptre with sea greens and greys. Second, I colored the head in with black and purple, I didn't want to make the black have grey undertones so i changed it to purple to make it more interesting. The helm was next, and I simply colored that in with blue. Most of the jewelry was done with golds and reds, not using glitter this time in fear of ruining the paper. Afterwards I colored in the skin with a lot of reddish browns, as most of the original art depicted him with that skin tone. The last touches on the body were his skirt and some other bits of jewelry on him. The clouds were done with french grey and light lavender, I tried my best to make the color choices interesting, and lastly, the background was done with yellows, golds, reds, purples, and a light blue. I would like to to a project like this again!
