For my eleventh concentration piece, I decided to do Arabic mythology, as well as Persian. These are ghouls, creatures of the night that eat the corpses of humans. I decided to have the piece kind of tell a story, such as the two ghouls that are eating the corpse of the lady, which shows an open coffin in the right, and a hole in the ground in the back showing they dug into the ground. The man with a lantern looks at the hole as the ghouls eat the corpse. This project was done painting in indian ink, with red watercolor for the blood. The most difficult part of this piece was the background, such as the walls and grass, I'm not very good at painting backgrounds usually so it's always the most difficult. The easiest part of this project was the ghouls themselves, their bodies were fairly easy to shade in.
First, I sketched the basic shapes of the ghouls and background, and then sketched them into more detail. Afterwards, I began painting with the base tone of grey and filling and shading it in. Then, I did the same for the floor and the lady lying down, after then I started to add a lot more detail to the walls and the bodies of the ghouls. I had a lot of problems adding enough value to make the subjects visible, since I hadn't really painting a pull picture in indian ink before. The background was simplified to just a graveyard and some tombstones, though I knew I was going to have a person in the background that the ghouls were hiding from. The last thing I did was darken the values around the ghouls and added the blood. I'd like to do a project like this again.
